The Redmi Note 5, successor to the massively popular Redmi Note 4, has been spotted in the wild. Xiaomi may be looking to bring bezel-less screens to the masses with its next Redmi phone. Note that Xiaomi already has the Mi Mix and the Mix 2 phones to its name.
The Mi Mix and the Mix 2 are however mid-range flagships. While Xiaomi’s Redmi range is known for their affordability aspect. Which means should the Redmi Note 5 get a bezel-less screen. It would make it the cheapest Xiaomi phone to ship with such a feature. Rumour has it that the alleged Redmi Note 5 will come with a 5.5-inch near bezel-less screen. With an unusual 18:9 aspect ratio. Something that would make the phone taller rather than wider. This would make the phone occupy a much smaller footprint when in the hands. A trend also seen in Xiaomi’s Mi Mix and Mi Mix 2 .
Additionally, the alleged Redmi Note 5 will come with a dual camera system on the rear consisting of one 16-megapixel camera and another 5-megapixel camera. It is yet to be seen what functionality the dual camera system would bring to the table with regards to Xiaomi’s upcoming phone.
Rumoured specs of the Redmi Note 5 include: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660/MediaTek Helio P25 depending on the market, up to 4 gigs of RAM and up to 64GB of internal storage and a 4,000mAh battery powering the whole thing.Xiaomi launched the Qualcomm-based Redmi Note 4 phone in India in January at a starting price of Rs 9,999 for the base 2GB RAM and 32GB memory version. The Redmi Note 4 is also available in 3GB RAM and 32GB memory, and 4GB RAM and 64GB memory versions. While the former is available for Rs 10,999, the latter costs Rs 12,999.The phone comes with a 13-megapixel camera on the rear with f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Autofocus and dual-LED (dual-tone) flash. On the front, the Redmi Note 4 comes with a 5-megapixel camera.
The phone further comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS LCD display. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor clubbed with Adreno 506GPU. All the versions of the Redmi Note 4 support expandable storage of up to 128GB via a hybrid microSD card slot. The dualSIM phone runs Android Marshmallow-based MIUI 8 and supports 4G LTE (VoLTE-ready). The Redmi Note 4 is further backed by a 4,100mAh battery.
